Barguna murder suspect Nayon Bond dies in police ‘shootout’

A key suspect in the daylight killing of Refat Shorif in front of his wife in Barguna town has died in an alleged shootout with the police.

The suspect, who dubbed himself as Nayon Bond in his crime world, died during a police raid to arrest criminals near the Payra river in Barguna Sadar Upazila at 4am Tuesday, Superintendent of Police Maruf Hossain said.

A team of police led by Additional Superintendent of Police MD Shahjahan Hossain conducted the drive.

"Nayon's accomplices opened fire on police on the riverbank in Burir Char village in the morning. The police retaliated in self-defence. His accomplices fled the scene following the gunfight and Nayon was found wounded.”

Police recovered a pistol, a bullet and three local weapons from the scene, said the police superintendent.

Four police members, including officer Shahjahan Hossain, were injured in the incident, he said.
