State Minister for Shipping Razib Ahsan has found evidence of passengers being charged extra fares during a visit to the Paturia ferry terminal in Manikganj before Eid-ul-Azha.

He visited the launch and ferry terminals on Monday to inspect passenger services and overall management as holidayers started making their way to village homes.

During the inspection at the No. 3 ferry terminal, he received complaints from passengers and found proof that additional fares were being collected from travellers.

Razib then instructed authorities to fine the contractor involved.

The state minister said some passengers were being charged an extra Tk 10 at certain points.

“Although the amount may seem small, this is a serious matter,” he said.

He added that the government had taken various measures to make Eid travel easier.

“We are checking whether the measures are being implemented correctly and whether there are any problems anywhere,” he said.
