Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) President Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez has said journalism should focus on facts rather than assumptions.

Speaking at the celebration of bdnews24.com’s 19th anniversary on Thursday evening at Dhaka’s Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel, he remarked that readers prefer fact-based information.

“In journalism, it’s important to write what actually happened, not what’s assumed,” he said.

“Readers want information grounded in facts. They want to know about positive developments more than negative ones. But often, stories are written based on what might attract more views.”

Sharing his expectations from the media, the business leader said: “In economic and trade reporting, we want the focus to stay on the current situation, with an analysis of how today’s trends could affect the future.”
