Sirajganj, Aug 01 (BDNEWS) – An alleged absconding top terrorist was killed early Tuesday in 'crossfire' between Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and a gang of terrorists near Mandarkhola Bridge under Kamarkhand upazila in Sirajganj. Two RAB members were also injured in the incident.
The top terrorist was identified as Yakub Ali, son of Abdur Rahman Munshi of Bugbari village under the same upazila. He was an absconding convict of 10 years imprisonment.
RAB sources said, acting on a tip off, a team of RAB- 12 conducted a raid Monday at Kandarpara Hatkhola Bazar and arrested Yakub and his accomplice Azam Ali, another top terrorist of the area.
Following their confessions another team of RAB carried out another drive along with Yakub to nab his accomplices and unearth their hidden arms dens.
RAB said when they reached near the Mandarkhola Bridge, the ambushed accomplices of Yakub opened fire on them and also hurled hand made bombs from their hidden dens to snatch their comrade from the clutches of the elite crime busting forces. In a bid of self-defence, RAB also retaliated.
At one stage of so-called melee, the top terrorist tried to escape, received several bullet injuries and died on the spot.
The accomplices of Yakub, according to RAB who opened fire on them, managed to flee the scene leaving a pistol, two rounds of bullets and an empty container of a hand made bomb on the spot.
RAB said Yakub was accused in seven cases including murder, extortion, dacoity and abduction charges.
