The registration and reissuance of the Mass Rapid Transit, or MRT, pass for metro travel in Dhaka has been temporarily suspended for one week.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, or DMTCL, posted on its verified Facebook page around 6:30pm on Friday that the services would be closed until Nov 7 due to unavoidable circumstances.
DMTCL Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf said, "Our system is being coordinated. The part related to the clearing house is being updated in the cloud."
"Work has started. It may not take a week. Then both registration and reissue will resume," he added.
Currently, the metro rail operates from Saturday to Thursday, from 7:10 am to 9:40 pm, while on Fridays it runs from 3:30 pm to 9:40 pm.
For metro travel, passengers have two types of tickets available: the long-term MRT pass and the single journey ticket.
The MRT pass allows for unlimited travel as long as there is balance on the card.
The card can be recharged up to Tk 10,000, and pass holders receive a 10 percent discount.
To exit the station, passengers must use their cards, which automatically deduct the fare. In contrast, single journey tickets require insertion into a machine to enter and exit the station.
