Dhaka, Nov 29 (BDNEWS)- The Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP) has stressed the need for global peace through inter-religious harmony in the present world embroiled in violence, extremism and fanaticism.
The leaders of the ACRP at a meeting in Dhaka decided to expand the Bangladesh Chapter with representatives of distinguished scholars from different faiths of the country.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Secretary General of ACRP Dr Sunggon Kim from Korea, Associate Secretaries General Dr Deepali Bhanot from India, Ms Mi Sook Han from Korea and Rev. Katsuji Suzuki from Japan with International President of World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP) Mir Nawaz Khan Marwat in the chair.
For the next one year, the meet selected Shuddhananda Mahathero as the Chief Patron while Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, Justice Gour Gopal Saha, Archbishop Paulinus Costa and RN Dutta Gupta as Patrons of the Bangladesh Chapter of the organisation.
The meeting unanimously selected State Minister for Religious Affairs Mosharef Hossain Shahjahan as the President and Professor Dr Golam Dastagir of Jahangirnagar University as Secretary General of ACRP, Bangladesh.
The leaders also decided to hold the next EC meeting in Dhaka on December 28-30 to strengthen the governance structure of ACEP and promote peace and communal harmony needed most in the present global context.
