Students of the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway to protest a police attack on their BUET peers, who are demonstrating in Dhaka over a three-point demand.

Tension flared on the RUET campus around 3pm on Wednesday after reports of the clashes in Dhaka spread.

Students left their halls, gathered on campus and marched in protest. By 4pm, they moved to the Talaimari intersection and blocked the highway, halting traffic in the process.

Shouting slogans, protesters condemned the police assault on the demonstrating BUET students. They vowed to continue their agitation and keep the highway blocked until those responsible were brought to justice.

Motihar Police chief Abdul Malek said traffic was being diverted through alternative routes, minimising disruption despite the blockade.
