State Minister for Agriculture Sultan Salahuddin Tuku says the government will begin work on introducing a “Farmer Card” programme in line with the BNP’s election commitment.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday, his first day in office, he said the initiative will be a priority.

“The BNP pledged to introduce a Farmer Card for farmers if it came to power. In line with that promise, we will start working on distributing the Farmer Card from the very beginning,” he said.

“We must move forward with this programme and determine how we can start distributing the cards.”

Tuku said the new administration had begun what he described as a democratic journey.

“Our Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has entrusted us with responsibilities. We will carry them out with honesty and dedication,” he said.
