BNP chief Tarique Rahman is forming his government with 25 ministers and 24 state ministers following his party’s victory in the 13th parliamentary election.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin is scheduled to administer the oath to members of the new cabinet on Tuesday afternoon at the South Plaza of the parliament complex.

Among the notable inclusions is Khalilur Rahman, national security advisor to the interim government's chief advisor. Although he is not a member of parliament, he is set to join the cabinet as a technocrat minister.

Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid Yasin, general secretary of Cumilla district BNP, will also take oath as a technocrat minister.

Yasin, who was elected to parliament in 1996, had initially prepared to contest the Cumilla-6 (Sadar) seat on the BNP’s ticket in the last election. However, the party nomination for the seat went to Chairperson’s Advisor Monirul Haque Chowdhury.

He later considered running as an independent candidate but announced his withdrawal from the race on Jan 19.

Former footballer Md Aminul Haque, the BNP Central Executive Committee’s sports affairs secretary and convener of Dhaka North BNP, is also set to join the government as a technocrat state minister.

Aminul contested in the Dhaka-16 constituency with the "paddy sheaf" symbol in the Feb 12 election but lost to Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Abdul Baten.

Party sources say he may be assigned the portfolio of state minister for sports.
