Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for a “strong revenue system” to help build a prosperous Bangladesh, stressing the need for patriotism and sincerity in revenue management.
Inaugurating the Revenue Conference 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka on Tuesday, Tarique urged officials and other stakeholders to work together to build a robust revenue system.
He expressed hope that the conference would help shape a revenue management framework that encourages greater investment and creates a more business-friendly environment.
Turning to revenue collection targets, the prime minister said collections had shown a positive trend from mid-February through the end of June.
Addressing revenue officials, he said: “This proves you can do it, you alone can do it, and you will surely do it.”
The Internal Resources Division under the finance ministry and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) jointly organised the conference.
Officials from the income tax, value-added tax (VAT) and customs wings each presented their work plans there.
An infographic on revenue and tax management was also unveiled at the event.
Customs and tax officials shared their field-level experiences and the challenges they face, offering their views on how to resolve them.
The prime minister listened closely to their remarks and issued directives.
