Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus will present the heroic saga of the July-August mass uprising in Bangladesh at the United Nations.
He is expected to speak during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Sept 27, where he will highlight the reform efforts undertaken to repair the state after the political changeover.
Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, or BSS: “The speech will reflect how students stood against fascism at the cost of their lives, leading to a successful uprising that sowed the seeds of new hope among the public.”
He added that the chief advisor will discuss the interim government's reform initiatives, including the electoral system reform, to foster democratic values, good governance, and economic prosperity in Bangladesh.
Shafiqul said the chief advisor will convey the philosophy of the Bangladeshi people and government to the global community in the changed circumstances following the removal of the fascist rule of ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina.
Yunus will call upon the international community to cooperate with Bangladesh by reaching above geopolitics, the press secretary said.
In addition, the chief advisor is scheduled to hold courtesy meetings with top leaders from several countries and participate in other side events during the UN General Assembly in New York.
