Two people have reportedly been killed and three others injured in an explosion during an attempt to make crude bombs, locally known as "cocktails", in Chapainawabganj Sadar.

The blast happened around 5am in Fata Para village in Charbagdanga, according to police.

Police said the explosion occurred while crude bombs were being made at the home of a man identified only as Kalam. The force of the blast caused the brick walls of the house to collapse and blew off its tin roof.

Nure Alam, chief of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, said officers were working to confirm the identities of the dead and injured.

“Two people were killed and three seriously injured in the explosion. We are trying to confirm their names and identities,” he said, adding that local residents had so far been unable to provide details.
