Four female athletes from Bangladesh have joined the “welcome reception” ahead of the Earthna Summit 2025 in Qatar’s Doha.
The reception was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Tuesday, the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) said.
The four female athletes accompanied the interim government head for the first time in the country's history. The four are footballers Afida Khandaker and Shaheda Akter Ripa and cricketers Sumaiya Akhter and Sharmin Sultana.
The BSS wrote that the four female athletes were invited by the Qatar Foundation along with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.
He arrived in Doha with his entourage to attend the conference on Monday.
The chief advisor’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told BSS that Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Nazrul Islam received the interim government head upon his arrival at Hamad International Airport at 9:40pm local time on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.
The group left Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport around 7pm.
The theme of the conference is "Building Our Legacy: Sustainability, Innovation and Traditional Knowledge". It is to be highlighted on Tuesday and Wednesday through presentations, panel discussions, workshops and roundtables.
The conference, which will be held for the second time, will highlight Qatar's commitment to harnessing its traditional culture and unique environmental diversity to advance sustainable development in its humid and dry weather, the BSS wrote.
