Boyali Police Station OC Ziaur Rahman Zia said that the attack took place around 12pm at the city's Rajarhata intersection.
According to witnesses, Opposition activists were returning after attending a procession when a handmade bomb was hurled at a nearby police truck which was parked.
The bomb exploded at the back of the truck and left 9 police constables injured.
OC Zia said that the injured have been taken to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Three of them were in critical condition, he said.
