Yeasin Khan Palash, alias “Kailla” Palash, listed as a top gangster, has died a week after being shot in Dhaka's Rampura.
He passed away around 1am on Saturday at Evercare Hospital Bangladesh, where he had been under treatment, Hatirjheel Police chief Md Asaduzzaman said.
A postmortem is being arranged, he added.
Palash was shot around 1:45pm on Jun 12 near his home outside the Bangladesh Television building in Rampura.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where he was treated for two days before being moved to Evercare Hospital on Sunday night when his condition failed to improve.
After the attack, his wife Mahmuda Khanam filed an attempted murder case with Hatirjheel Police Station, naming fellow gangster Jisan Ahmed Monty as the prime suspect.
Ten others were named in the case, along with seven to eight unnamed suspects.
Mahmuda told police the shooting was “premeditated”, with an armed assailant firing at her husband with intent to kill.
Police arrested Imam Hossain in Badda on Saturday, saying he was the motorcycle rider who helped the shooter flee the scene.
On Monday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested another suspect identified only as Ferdous and handed him over to police, saying he had been present at and around the scene on the day of the attack.
Two people have so far been arrested in the case.
