The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken 59 people, including women and children, into custody while they were trying to enter Bangladesh from India through the Maheshpur Upazila border in Jhenaidah.
They were caught in an operation near the border from dawn until dusk on Monday, the Maheshpur-58 BGB Battalion said in a statement.
The BGB said they conducted the drive after a tip-off about the trespass from India.
Among the detainees, 20 were held from Majhipara of Shyamkur village, 13 from Khushalpur BOP area, 14 from Pipulbaria village of Benipur border, five from Hudapara village of Bagadanga BOP and seven others from near the Laraighat BOP.
The detainees include 26 children, 25 men and 18 women. They hail from several districts including Narail, Sunamganj, Jashore and Dhaka.
They were handed over to Maheshpur police in a case initiated by the BGB.
