Sayedur Rahman returns as CA's special assistant two days after resignation

He is reassigned to the health ministry just two days after his resignation took effect

Prof Sayedur Rahman is set to return to his post as special assistant to the chief advisor tasked with overseeing the health ministry, just two days after completing the formalities of his retirement from Bangladesh Medical University.

A gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday said Sayedur had been reassigned to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with the rank of a state minister. He had resigned from the same post on Tuesday.

The notification did not give a reason for the move. However, an official at the Chief Advisor's Office told bdnews24.com the resignation and reappointment were required to comply with administrative procedures.

Sayedur had been appointed special assistant in November last year while serving as vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University. His tenure at the university ended on Tuesday, the official said.

“As part of the retirement process, he resigned from the post of special assistant a month earlier, and the resignation was accepted on Tuesday,” the official added. “After his retirement, the government reappointed him to the same position.”

According to the notification, Sayedur will receive a salary, allowances and other benefits equivalent to those of a state minister while serving in the role.
