Chuadanga introduces Fuel Cards to ‘streamline’ oil supply, combat smuggling

Vehicles arriving from other districts will need to obtain specific permission from the district administration to get refuelled

The Chuadanga district administration has decided to introduce Fuel Cards for vehicles, effective from Apr 1.

The decision came at a meeting on the storage, transport, and distribution of fuel held at the deputy commissioner’s office on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain announced that the distribution of these cards will begin on Monday and Tuesday from his office.

To obtain a card, vehicle owners must submit copies of the vehicle’s registration, the driver’s licence, and their national ID card.

“From Apr 1, fuel will only be supplied to vehicles carrying Fuel Cards, and the quantity provided will be based on necessity,” Kamal said.

Fuel will be sold at 22 filling stations across the district simultaneously from 7am to 8pm daily.

The administration has exempted the agricultural sector from these restrictions.

Diesel for agricultural use will continue to be available 24 hours a day without the need for a Fuel Card.

For vehicles arriving from other districts, fuel can be collected only after obtaining specific permission from the district administration office, added Additional District Magistrate Tariquzzaman.

The district administration issued a stern warning to filling station owners, stating they would be held accountable if any employee is found involved in irregularities or unethical practices.

Police Superintendent Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan informed the meeting that a major crackdown will begin on Monday against motor vehicles operating without valid registration, driving licences, or helmets.

BGB confirmed that border guards have been placed on high alert and surveillance has been intensified in frontier areas.
