2-year-old drowns in water body beside home in Jamalpur

The toddler slipped away from the yard while his mother was busy cooking

A 2-year-old boy has lost his life after drowning in a water body (Beel) just steps from his home in Jamalpur's Bokshiganj Upazila.

The tragedy unfolded at Singgidoba Beel in Sadhurpara Union around 7:30am on Tuesday, said Kamaler Barty Police Investigation Centre in-charge Rafiqul Islam.

The victim, Mohammad Ali, was the son of Suja Ali of Gazirpara village.

His mother Lamia Akter had been busy cooking when the toddler quietly slipped out of the yard.

By the time the family realised he was gone, they were already searching frantically.

He was eventually pulled from the water body, but it was too late -- Ali died on the way to Bokshiganj Upazila Health Complex.

Legal proceedings are under way, the police officer said.
