A 26-year-old man has been hacked to death in a broad daylight attack in Kushtia Sadar Upazila, police said.

The incident occurred around 12:30pm near the Chourhas Cold Storage, according to Kushtia Model Police chief Kabir Hossain Matubbar.

He said they suspect conflicts over narcotics led to the killing of transport worker Sheikh Sagar.

The victim's brother, identified only as Towfiq, alleged that two individuals, identified as “Vicky and Bijoy”, had assaulted him earlier in the morning and threatened Sagar.

"They told me to call Sagar. Shortly after, I heard he had been killed," Toufique said, adding that he saw the suspects roaming with sharp weapons before the attack.

Witnesses found Sagar bleeding near the cold storage after the attackers fled.

He was rushed to the 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Dr Hossain Imam, the hospital’s resident physician, noted that Sagar suffered multiple deep wounds from sharp weapons, with a fatal injury to his neck.

OC Kabir said police have collected evidence from the scene.

"We initially suspect the murder was triggered by a drug-related feud," he added.
