The Election Commission (EC) has asked its personnel on the ground to prepare a draft list of polling stations for the general election, with publication set for Sept 10.
The commission plans to settle claims and objections by Oct 12 and complete the final polling centre list by Oct 20.
A letter detailing the process has been sent to all senior district and district election officers, setting out requirements for submitting constituency-wise lists of proposed polling centres and booths.
The directive asks for all data to be submitted in a specified format, with total numbers matched against registered voters in each area.
Md Mahbub Alam Shah, deputy secretary of the EC (election support and coordination), sent the letter on Wednesday under the heading “Setting up polling centres for the 13th parliamentary election”.
In the last parliamentary polls, Bangladesh used more than 42,000 polling centres and over 261,000 polling booths.
This time, with nearly 130 million voters expected to cast ballots, the updated figures for polling infrastructure will be known once the draft is released in September.
