Dhaka Metro Rail services have resumed after Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) staff called off their full scale work stoppage.

The protest programme was postponed following assurance from the government about formulating an independent employment policy for the organisation.

The protest was withdrawn hours after it was launched at 3pm on Friday with sit-in programmes in front of the DMTCL building.

DMTCL Managing Director Faruque Ahmed appeared before the demonstrating staff at 7:30pm, promising to accept their demand in the next board meeting scheduled for Dec 18.

“We have called off our full-scale work stoppage. The MD promised to accept our demand in the next board meeting. We have decided to postpone our protest until then,” said Akram Hossain, an employee of the DMTCL.
