Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has sought prayers and support from the public to build the “Bangladesh people aspire to”.
He made the call on Saturday after exchanging Eid greetings with diplomats and people from different walks of life at the State Guest House Jamuna.
“Eid Mubarak to everyone. On this Eid, we pray to Allah for mercy so that we may gradually build the Bangladesh our people aspire to.”
The prime minister said he was also seeking the prayers of the people and their cooperation.
“If we have your support, then your elected government will continue trying with its full strength to build the country in line with your aspirations,” he said.
Tarique paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War, wounded freedom fighters, and those killed in the July 2024 Uprising.
He also said he hoped that, regardless of political affiliation, people across the country would remain well and healthy on Eid day.
At the beginning of his remarks, Tarique said he and his family had been able to celebrate Eid in Bangladesh with the people of the country after many years, and expressed gratitude for that.
Referring to the peaceful observance of Eid, he said he prayed that Bangladesh would continue to enjoy the same calm and uninterrupted celebrations in future years.
Earlier, after arriving at Jamuna, the prime minister first exchanged Eid greetings with diplomats.
He later greeted Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, judges of the Appellate Division and High Court Division of the Supreme Court, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin and other election commissioners, the cabinet secretary, the chiefs of the three Armed Services, the BGB chief, the police chief and other senior government officials.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also exchanged Eid greetings with the prime minister.
Tarique later greeted citizens from different professions and people from all sections of society.
His wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman were beside him during the programme.
Alongside leaders of different professional groups, working people also came to Jamuna to greet the prime minister. Large crowds gathered there for a glimpse of him, and he exchanged Eid greetings with people amid the rush.
Security personnel were seen struggling to manage the large turnout.
