Three members of the Kuki-Chin National Front, an armed organisation operating in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, have been killed in a shootout with the army in Bandarban’s Ruma, according to the Inter-Service Public Relations.
“The Army located a secret KNF hideout deep in the jungle in Ruma Upazila,” said ISPR Assistant Director Rashedul Alam Khan in a statement on Sunday. “Army personnel then conducted a raid in the area in the morning. Three KNF members were killed in a gunfight at the time.”
Weapons and other materials were recovered from the KNF hideout, the statement said. However, it did not have details on the number of weapons or the materials recovered.
The army’s operation is still ongoing, the ISPR said.
“The scene is the Kuttajhiri area, about 4 km from Munnuam Para in Ward No. 6 of Ruma Upazila’s Paindu Union,” said Mohammad Suhrawardy, chief of Ruma Police Station. “We have also heard about three people being killed in an army operation.”
“But we have not had any official confirmation. We have heard that the operation is still ongoing.”
