A police sub-inspector has been injured after a bullet fired from his service pistol hit him while his young son was playing with the firearm in Natore.

On Friday evening, the incident took place at the police lines in Borhorishpur, Natore Police Superintendent Muhammad Abdul Wahab said.

Sub-Inspector Dewan Mamun was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after the accidental discharge.

Officer Wahab explained the sequence of events: after completing his duty, Mamun had placed his pistol on the bed and went to the washroom. While he was away, his young son started playing with the firearm. When Mamun came out of the washroom, a bullet accidentally fired and struck him in the left leg.

Colleagues immediately rushed to his aid and first took him to Sadar Hospital, then to a local private clinic, before transferring him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Police officials from the area visited Mamun at the hospital after learning of his injury.
