Three carriages of the Kalni Express headed from Sylhet to Dhaka have unlinked from the rest of the train as it was in motion in Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj.
The incident occurred around 11:50pm in the Talshahar Railway Station area as the coupling hook on the buffer connection broke, disconnecting three of the carriages from the rest of the train.
Ashinganj Rail Station Manager Shahidul Islam said the Kalni Express left Brahmanbaria Railway Station at 11:30am. The coupling hook broke around 11:50am as the train arrived at the Talshahar Railway Station in Ashuganj Upazila. This caused three of the coaches at the rear of the train to disconnect.
When the locomaster realised what had happened, he hit the brakes. The locomotive and the rest of the carriages then stopped in the station area about 0.5km from where the incident took place.
The panicked passengers raised a commotion at the time, but no major accidents or casualties have been reported.
Workers on the Kalni Express and from Ashuganj and Talshahar railway stations are trying to repair the buffer hook, Shahidul said.
Sakir Jahan, assistant master at Brahmanbaria Railway Station said that the accident has not blocked any routes as there are several lines in the area.
