The law ministry has decided to prioritise five tasks, including expediting the prosecution of those responsible for the killings that occurred during the uprising in July and August.
The ministry took the decision in a meeting chaired by Asif Nazrul, the interim government’s law, justice and parliamentary affairs advisor, at the Secretariat on Saturday.
The tasks include:
• All criminal cases filed from Jul 1 to Aug 5 against protesters will be withdrawn within the next three working days.
• Measures will be taken to ensure that those involved in the killings during this period are swiftly brought to justice.
• Children and adolescents held in development centres on false or harassing charges will be released within the next three working days.
• False and harassing charges filed under anti-terrorism and cyber security laws will be promptly withdrawn.
• Legal assistance will be provided to victims of such cases through the Law and Justice Division’s helpline number 16430.
