Police have launched a manhunt to arrest several identified suspects after unidentified assailants shot a man dead in Chattogram.
The victim, 35-year-old Mohammad Babul, was reportedly attacked near the BMO Brick Field at Jungle Raozan, a hilly woodland section in the north of the Upazila, in the early hours of Saturday.
Raozan Police chief Md Sajedul Islam told bdnews24.com that a group of attackers opened fire around 3:30am, shooting Babul in the back before fleeing the scene.
Babul was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead, he added.
The officer said the reason behind the killing remains unclear, but several individuals have already been identified and efforts are ongoing to arrest them.
Chattogram Medical College Hospital Police Outpost Sub-inspector (SI) Alauddin Talukdar said family members brought Babul to the facility around 6am, after which doctors confirmed his death.
Citing relatives, the SI added that Babul went out at night to catch fish when he was beaten and shot by a group of people who then fled the area.
