Man kills wife, child before killing himself in Ashulia, police say

Police believe the killings took place over a family dispute

Police have recovered the bodies of three family members from a house in Ashulia, Dhaka.

The bodies were found around 7pm on Sunday from a rented house at Narsinghpur, said Sub-Inspector Majibur Rahman Bhuiyan.

The dead were identified as Rubel Ahmed, 35, from Bogura’s Dhanut, his wife Sonia Akhter, 28, and their 6-year-old daughter, identified only as Jamila.

According to locals, the house’s door had been closed since the morning. In the afternoon, a neighbour noticed a hanging body from the window and alerted the authorities.

Police arrived, broke open the door, and found all three bodies inside. The man’s body was found hanging, while the woman and child were lying on the bed.

Police suspect that a family dispute led to the man strangling his wife and child before taking his own life.

The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
