Ship stuck after hitting buoy while entering Chittagong Port

A container ship has become stranded at the mouth of the Karnaphuli River after striking a buoy while entering Chittagong Port.

The vessel suffered a mechanical failure following the collision and was unable to move further.

The ship, MV CNC Uranus, became stranded near Chittagong Port around 2:15pm and remained there until 7pm.

Two port tugboats, along with the Navy and Coast Guard, are working together to salvage the container ship.

Although the vessel ran aground at the river mouth, it has not disrupted the port channel, and shipping movement is expected to remain normal, said Chittagong Port Authority Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim.
