Residents of several villages in Chattogram are celebrating Eid-ul-Azha in alignment with Saudi Arabia and other Western Asian countries.
The followers of Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif in Satkania have been observing all religious festivals based on the sighting of the moon at any point in the world for many years.
Similar to Chattogram, communities in several other districts across the country observe Eid and other religious events in this manner.
The main Eid congregation took place at the Darbar Sharif Khanqah ground on Wednesday morning, with Sajjadanshin, or caretaker, Maulana Muhammad Mokshudur Rahman leading the prayers.
Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif's Md Masudur Rahman said the followers of the Satkania shrine have been celebrating Eid-ul-Azha on the day after Hajj for over two centuries, following the Hanafi school of thought, one of the main Sunni Islamic legal traditions, guides how religious practices are interpreted and followed.
Beyond Chattogram, followers in Feni, Rangamati, Cumilla, Dhaka, Munshiganj, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Chandpur (Matlab), Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Noakhali, Barisal, Patuakhali, Chuadanga, Bhola, and the hill districts of Bandarban and Cox's Bazar are also celebrating Eid.
The majority of Muslims in Bangladesh will celebrate the festival of sacrifice on Thursday, as the Zilhajj moon was sighted in the country on May 18.
