Rangpur Divisional Health Director Md Harun-Or-Rashid believes Nilphamari Sadar would be the perfect location for the 1,000-bed hospital funded by the Chinese government.
He said this after inspecting 10 hectares of private land near the Sadar Upazila’s Darwani Textile Mills around 10:30am on Tuesday.
Recently, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus visited China and was promised that the country would fund the establishment of a 1,000-bed specialised hospital in Bangladesh. He then instructed the authorities to find a suitable place for the facility around Rangpur.
Harun said, “The site we visited in Rangpur following the chief advisor’s instruction was found unsatisfactory. The Nilphamari deputy commissioner quickly proposed this location and submitted a report.
“Overall, this is a good location, and no one has opposed the deputy commissioner’s proposed site so far.”
People across different districts are forming human chains and posting on Facebook, demanding that the China-funded hospital be set up in their areas.
Harun said, “The 1,000-bed hospital gifted by the Chinese government will be established in Nilphamari. Considering geography and connectivity, this is the health directorate’s top choice.
“The chief advisor said 4 to 5 hectares of land is needed, but when we came here to Nilphamari, we found 10 hectares of land. This will allow us to conduct the work more efficiently.
“In terms of security, we know that the people of north Bengal are well-behaved. Apart from this, there is an airport nearby and the road connectivity is also excellent.
