The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms in 22 districts on Friday and issued a warning that includes advice on what to do in case of lightning strikes.
The forecast said that the six hours from 9:30am on Friday could bring temporary gusts of up to 45-60kmph, stormy winds, and thunderstorms.
Lightning warnings have been issued for the districts of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Rajshahi, Natore, Pabna, Bogura, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jashore, Kushtia, Rajbari, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Dhaka, Gazipur, Narsingdi, Tangail, Mymensingh, and Sylhet.
The warning included advice to avoid lightning strikes:
-- Stay inside during thunderstorms
-- Keep windows and doors closed
-- Avoid travel during the storm if possible
-- Take refuge in safe shelter
-- Avoid taking shelter underneath a tree
-- Avoid lying down on concrete floors or leaning against concrete walls
-- Unplug electrical and electronic devices
-- Leave water bodies or lakes quickly
-- Stay away from devices that carry electric current
-- Stay inside during hailstorms
