Three men from Noakhali have died in a motorcycle accident on their way home after visiting a Saraswati Puja pavilion in Feni.
The accident occurred on the Feni-Noakhali highway in the Uttar Alipur area of Daganbhuiyan Upazila at 9:30pm on Monday, said Inspector Md Harunur Rashid of Mahipal Highway Police Station.
The dead were identified as 23-year-old Sourav Goswami from Noakhali’s Choumuhani Upazila, 23-year-old Antar Ghosh from Companiganj Upazila, and 22-year-old Debu from the same Upazila.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the Feni 250-bed General Hospital for an autopsy.
Citing the witnesses, Inspector Harunur said: “Five friends went to Feni from Noakhali on two motorcycles to attend Saraswati Puja festivities on Monday evening. After visiting the pavilion, they were returning home at night when one of the motorcycles veered out of control and crashed into a tree. Two of the passengers died on the spot.”
“Another passenger was severely injured. Locals rescued him and took him to the Feni General Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. The other motorcycle had reached Noakhali by that time.”
Police have seized the motorcycle involved in the accident and are taking the necessary legal action, the inspector said.
