The New Mooring Terminal (NCT) has handled a record number of containers, surpassing 5,700 TEUs in a single day, says the Chittagong Port Authority.
A total of 5,709 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) were handled on Thursday, exceeding the previous highest feat of 5,484 TEUs on Apr 11.
Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim told bdnews24.com: "This is the highest container handling in a single day in NCT's history."
The port authority reported the handling of 10,162 TEUs at all its terminals, including the NCT, on Thursday.
“This achievement is a reflection of the relentless efforts of Chittagong Port to expand trade and increase capacity in Bangladesh’s maritime route,” said Refayet.
The NCT is operated by Chittagong Dry Dock Limited, a subsidiary of the Bangladesh Navy.
