Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the awards at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Saturday morning.
Ekushey Padak is one of Bangladesh’s highest civilian awards.
Each recipient was given a gold medal, a citation, and Tk 200,000.
Justice Haque, Dr Sayeed Haider and Dr Jasim Uddin were chosen for their roles in the 1952 Language Movement.
Syed Golam Kibria was posthumously honoured for his part in the same movement.
Actress Jahanara Ahmed, classical music maestro Pundit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury, singer Samad, dancer Amanul Haque and the late artist Kazi Anwar Hossain (posthumous) received the honour for their contribution to the arts.
Liberation War Museum founder and Trustee Mafidul Haque was chosen for his contribution to the War of Independence in 1971.
Jyotiprakash Dutta, Prof Mahmud and Habibullah Siraji were awarded for their contribution to language and literature.
Bengali newspaper Daily Janakatha’s Advisory Editor Toab Khan was honoured for his role in journalism.
Prof ABM Abdullah and Mongchhenching Mongchhin were honoured for their research work.
