Criminals in Jungle Salimpur will be brought to heel through firm action, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday afternoon after visiting the control room at Police Headquarters, the home minister said:

“This safe haven for criminals will be eliminated. During the previous government’s tenure, due to the absence of the rule of law, criminals in Jungle Salimpur created a state within a state. We have examined the matter thoroughly, and we are taking action. When it becomes apparent, you will see it yourselves.”

He added, “We have seen how Jungle Salimpur turned into a state within a state. Now we have been able to bring it under the control of law enforcing agencies. A joint operation is ongoing there. Many weapons have been recovered, and many notorious criminals have been arrested.”

The minister continued, “We announced that a police academy, a RAB academy, and a sports police complex would be established there, along with academies for other forces including the BGB and APBn. The area is planned to become a major administrative and security-force training hub. There was already a plan to relocate the Chattogram district jail there.”

“Criminals are trying to maintain their previous hideouts in that area. However, the audacity they have shown will be dealt with very strictly. I do not want to reveal our future plans right now.”

Salahuddin also stated, “Wherever criminal havens exist in the country, they will be eliminated in order to establish the rule of law. We hope everyone will cooperate with us, and people from all levels of society will support and assist our efforts. There will be no place in this country for criminals, drug traffickers, or extortionists. We are maintaining zero tolerance in this regard.

“To solve these problems, we will need to use advanced technologies and engineering solutions.”
