Iran president rejects resignation rumours, vows to stay in office: report

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed rumours of his resignation, saying he will remain in office, Tasnim News Agency reports.

Pezeshkian made the remarks in a televised interview marking the second anniversary of his administration, excerpts of which were released on Tuesday ahead of broadcast on Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

He rejected claims of differences with the leader of the Islamic Revolution, saying his government remains fully coordinated with the armed forces.

"We are completely coordinated with the military forces," he said.

"If I ever decide to resign, I will announce it myself. But I will not resign, and I will stand firm," Pezeshkian said, denying the resignation rumours.

He said some were trying to create the impression of a rift between his administration and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

Mohammad Mahdi Tabatabaei, deputy for information and communications at the office of the president, earlier dismissed the reports as “baseless" and "an outright lie”, blaming “political extremists for spreading them to undermine national unity and serve Iran's enemies”.
