A 21-year-old woman has died after being thrown from a bridge without a properly secured bungee cord during an adventure activity in Brazil’s Sao Paulo state, NBC News reports.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred on Saturday at the Skeleton Bridge Trail in Limeira, according to the Sao Paulo Governor’s Office.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was seen in a video circulating on social media standing near the edge of a cliff wearing a helmet with her arms outstretched.
The footage showed three men lifting her, with two of them throwing her from the bridge.
The video appeared to show that she was not attached to a bungee cord as she fell several feet to the ground below.
"According to the police report, at the time of the jump, the safety equipment was not properly fixed," the governor's office said.
Emergency medical service teams later confirmed her death at the scene.
It remains unclear why the bungee cord was not properly secured before the activity took place.
The American broadcaster reported that six people were initially taken to the Limeira Police District for questioning.
Three of them -- men aged 27, 32 and 42 -- were later arrested on charges of homicide with eventual intent.
Under Brazilian law, the charge applies when a person does not intend to kill but engages in an act that carries a foreseeable risk of death.
Authorities have not released the identities of the suspects.
"Investigations continue to determine the circumstances and possible responsibilities," the governor's office said.
