Police assault shooter Asif: Arrested gold medallist released on bail

Dhaka, Oct 2 (bdnews24.com) –Asif Hussain Khan, the gold medallist shooter, assaulted and arrested Monday noon was released on bail in the afternoon.
The Gulshan police arrested the Commonwealth Games gold medallist shooter, his coach Shoaibuzzaman and three other employees of the Gulshan Shooting Complex.
Police also filed a case accusing Asif and others of manhandling the cops of the Gulshan thana and sent them to court.
The arrested shooting complex employees were identified as Jahangir, Ali Hossain and Jannatul Ferdaus.
Nazimuddin Chowdhury, general secretary of the Bangladesh Shooting Federation, told bdnews24.com Monday night that Asif and Shoaibuzzaman were released in the afternoon after the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted their bail prayer. Asif and Shoib were admitted to Metropolitan Medical Centre in Mohakhali.
At a press conference at the Shooting Complex after the incident, Chowdhury alleged that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), north zone, Obaidur Rahman and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan thana Mahbubur Rahman forcibly entered the complex and beat the shooters and other employees.
The federation officials demanded a high-powered probe committee to investigate the incident.
They also demanded punishment to the cops responsible for the attack on the national shooter and other officials.
The federation officials also alleged that the baton-wielding police stormed the dormitory and beat up the shooters and other officials leaving 25 persons including Shooter Asif, Ali Hossain Shipu, coach Shoaibuzzaman, cook Jahangir, female Ansar Jannatul Ferdaus injured.
According to locals, the incident took place at around 12:30 pm when a high-ranking police official parked his vehicle in front of the shooting complex gate, causing obstacles to other vehicles to enter the complex.
As Asif requested the on-duty policemen to remove the vehicle from the gate, the cops hurled abusive words at him, prompting Asif to exchange words with them.
Afterwards Asif walked into the shooting complex where the fellow shooters were in a practice session in preparation for the upcoming Asian Games.
A couple of minutes later, sub-inspector of Gulshan thana Jashim Uddin, along with some other policemen, entered the complex premises and beat Asif and coach Shoaibuzzaman.
During the incident, four employees of the complex rushed to the spot and tried to dissuade police from attacking them.
Local people said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Anwarul Iqbal was the owner of vehicle parked in front of the complex gate.
But the Gulshan police said they had no information about the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Gulshan police claimed that Asif and the employees of the Gulshan Shooting Complex beat up SI Jashim Uddin, constable Abdur Rahman and ansar Ziaur Rahman over the 'trifling issue.'
The injured cops were admitted to the Rajarbagh Police Line Hospital, Gulshan police added.
