Transfer roundup: Palhinha to Spurs, Wolfe to Wolves

Premier League clubs have stepped up their activity in recent days, securing major signings as they prepare for the start of the new season

With just a month left before the European transfer window closes, English clubs are stepping up their efforts to finalise signings ahead of their league campaigns as Premier League is set to start off from Aug 16.

Here's a roundup of the latest transfers.

SPURS TO LOAN BAYERN’S PALHINHA

Tottenham have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to bring Joao Palhinha on loan in a deal that includes an option for Spurs to make the move permanent for £27 million ($35.9 million).

The Portugal international, who joined Bayern from Fulham last year in a transfer worth up to £47.4 million, could now be on his way back to the Premier League.

The 30-year-old still has three years left on his current contract with the German club.

WOLVES SIGN AZ ALKMAAR’S FULL-BACK WOLFE

Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers FC have signed 23-year-old left-back David Moller Wolfe from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar for a fee of about £10 million ($13.3 million).

The Norwegian international becomes Vitor Pereira’s third summer signing, following Jhon Arias and Fer Lopez.

"I'm so, so happy and so proud to be a part of Wolves, so I'm over the moon right now," the defender was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

BURNLEY IN TALKS OVER CHELSEA’S BROJA

Burnley are close to finalising a permanent deal for Chelsea striker Armando Broja, with advanced talks ongoing between the two clubs.

The 23-year-old has yet to give his final approval but a general agreement between the two boards is in place.

The forward is open to joining Burnley, but the transfer is unlikely to be completed before early next week, according to BBC Sport.

The deal could be valued at up to £20 million ($26.6 million) as per multiple sources, though the exact fee remains unconfirmed.

FOREST KEEPER TURNER JOINS LYON

United States international Matt Turner has completed a permanent move to Lyon from Nottingham Forest.

The 31-year-old joined Forest from Arsenal in August 2023 and featured in 21 matches across all competitions before losing his starting spot to Matz Sels.

Turner now joins a Lyon side that recently overturned a financial ruling to avoid relegation to the French second division.

He becomes the latest player to depart Forest this summer, following the exits of Anthony Elanga, Danilo, Ramon Sosa, and Andrew Omobamidele.

LEICESTER’S COADY SIGNS FOR WREXHAM

Wrexham have secured the signing of centre-back Conor Coady from fellow Championship side Leicester City for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old former England international has agreed to a two-year deal, with an option for a third.

The acquisition of Coady marks another strong signal of Wrexham’s ambition as they gear up for their first campaign in the second tier in over four decades.

"I'm over the moon. It's a special day, I'll be honest," the centre back was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Coady brings top-flight experience with 198 Premier League appearances under his belt and previously captained Wolves to two seventh-place finishes and a Europa League quarter-final.

He has also earned 10 caps for England, having been part of the squads for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

LEEDS SIGN BRAZILIAN KEEPER PERRI FROM LYON

The 27-year-old Brazilian has signed a four-year deal with Leeds United after completing a reported £15.6 million ($20.7 million) transfer from French club Lyon.

Last season, he featured in 45 games across all competitions for Lyon, recording 13 clean sheets and helping the team secure a sixth-place finish in Ligue 1 to qualify for European competition.

"It is incredible. It is a dream come true," the 6ft 5in keeper was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

He has been capped at under-20 and under-23 level for his country.
