Memphis Depay has etched his name into Dutch football history by becoming the Netherlands' all-time leading goalscorer with a landmark 51st international goal during their World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.

The 31-year-old Corinthians forward converted Cody Gakpo's cross from close range to eclipse Robin van Persie's previous record of 50 goals.

Depay achieved the feat on his 104th cap, two more appearances than Van Persie required for his tally between 2005 and 2017.

His club career spanned PSV, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid before he joined the Brazilian side last year.

Depay debuted for the Oranje in 2013 against Turkey and netted his maiden goal against Australia at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
