Lamine Yamal, the teenage Barcelona superstar, has made waves online after waving a Palestinian flag during the Spanish club’s celebrations after winning the LaLiga title.

Several video clips circulating online show the 18-year-old waving the flag from an open-top bus as tens of thousands of fans took to the streets of the Catalonian capital, Al Jazeera reports.

Barcelona won their 29th league title after beating bitter rivals Real Madrid 2-0 at home on Sunday, capping the season with a victory in the El Clasico.

Al Jazeera reports that the city of Barcelona has been a major hub for pro-Palestinian activism in Spain, with regular large-scale protests. It also served as a departure point for aid flotillas attempting to break Israel’s blockade of the territory.
