Fazlul Haque Milon, the main opposition's Gazipur unit President, condemned his arrest and announced the dawn-to-dusk strike in a statement sent out around 9pm Monday.
He demanded Hannan Shah's immediate release.
Police arrested the senior BNP leader from the capital’s Baridhara, minutes before the Opposition called a 48-hour nationwide blockade rejecting the poll schedule announced by the Chief Election Commissioner, shortly before.
