Police cordon still in place around BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan

Yellow crime scene tape is still in place around the BNP's Naya Paltan office, cordoning off the party's headquarters as police are stationed nearby.

The law enforcers carry weapons and the collapsible gate to the office entrance has been padlocked.

Policemen say that the BNP office is now under the control of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Crime Scene Unit and they are conducting investigations there.

Meanwhile, technicians are installing new CCTV cameras on lampposts near the office.

Despite this, traffic is relatively normal in the Naya Paltan area. Commuters are travelling to their destinations by going around the crime scene tape.

Following clashes between the police and BNP activists at a major rally on Oct 28, police cordoned off the BNP's central office.

Yesterday, the Crime Scene Unit collected 11 pieces of evidence from the spot and sent them to the chemical laboratory for examination.

BNP activists were not seen in the area. Most of the party's leaders have gone into hiding after cases were filed against them.

A Dhaka court sent BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to jail in a case over an attack on Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan’s residence during the party’s Naya Paltan rally.
