The BNP chairperson's Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan on Monday evening told bdnews24.com: “(She) is feeling sick because of the pepper spray used by police. Two doctors have come, they are treating her.”

Khaleda, virtually besieged by police in her office since Saturday night, tried to drive out in the streets in the afternoon to join protest programmes on the anniversary of the last general elections.

But police prevented her by locking up the gates.

Police had used the pepper spray when leaders of the BNP’s women front Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal started protests.

The women leaders and journalists present there along with the BNP chief’s security personnel were affected by the pepper spray.

Khaleda was in her car at the time. Later, she was seen wiping her nose and eyes several times when she got out of the car and announced an indefinite nationwide blockade of highways, railways and waterways.

The police presence in front of and around her office was scaled down when she went back inside after declaring the fresh agitations.

The trucks hauling sand and brick on the right end of the Road-86 have been removed. But five trucks on the road’s left end are still there.
