Dhaka, Apr 6 (BDNEWS) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Thursday said the person arrested by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) is not Khaled Saifullah, a top leader of the outlawed Jamaatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB), as claimed by BDR initially.
The commanding officer of BDR 6-battalion Lieutenant Colonel Lutfar Rahman earlier said the arrested man was Khaled Saifullah, a member of JMB's Majlish-e-Shura, the top decision-making body.
But after hours of interrogation, Major Faruq of RAB-5 was convinced that the person was wrongly identified.
"The arrested man is not Khaled Saifullah," Faruq told reporters in Rajshahi Thursday morning.
A team of BDR of BOP camp in Kiranganj in Shibganj captured the man from Telkupi Bazar in the small hours of Thursday.
Soon after the arrest, Lt Col Lutfar Rahman, commanding officer of BDR 6, said the BDR team has arrested Khaled Saifullah (35).
"We took him to the BDR Sadar headquarter for quizzing," Lt Col Lutfar added.
The BDR official also said after being quizzed, the arrested man claimed himself to be Khaled Saifullah.
"The man look like the portrait of Saifullah, which was supplied by the home ministry," the Lt Col Lutfar added.
A team of RAB–5 of Rajshahi rushed to the BDR battalion headquarters and after interrogation, the RAB said the person was not Saifullah.
"Although the arrested man claimed himself to be Khaled Saifullah, but after massive quizzing we were suspicious about his real identity," major Faruq of RAB-5 told reporters.
He said in the morning, the arrested man told RAB that he is not Khaled Saifullah.
Lt Col Lutfar, earlier, told journalist that Khaled Saifullah had been living in Chapainawabganj since last two weeks.
