Jatiya Party’s Akkas Ali wins Kurigram-3 parliamentary by-election

The Jatiya Party’s Akkas Ali has defeated ruling Awami League candidate MA Matin by a margin of 2,703 in the by-election to the Kurigram-3 parliamentary seat.

Returning Officer GM Sahatab Uddin declared Akkas winner unofficially after the voting on Wednesday.

Akkas with plough symbol got 82,598 votes while his nearest rival Matin polled 79,895.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of Jatiya Party MP AKM Maidul Islam on May 11.

The Election Commission announced the polls schedule on June 10.
