Tarique Rahman has warned the forces defeated in the Liberation War are on a “vicious move to write a new history of the victory”.

Speaking virtually on Monday, the BNP acting chief blamed the “imprudence” of the ousted government for enabling the defeated forces to make such an attempt.

“On this Victory Day, let our pledge be to build a self-reliant, prosperous, and democratic Bangladesh that delivers the fruits of victory to every home, instead of seeking revenge and retaliation against the defeated forces,” said Tarique.

He made the remarks at a discussion organised by his party in Dhaka.

He said democracy and independence cannot be sustained unless the people of the country are politically and economically empowered.

He assures his party members he will soon join election campaigns.

After spending 18 years in exile in London, Tarique is set to return to Dhaka on Dec 25.

The discussion, held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, began with special prayers for the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
