Police detectives have detained Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, the chairman of the Trinamool BNP, following a raid at his home in Dhaka.
He was apprehended from his Banani DOHS residence on Thursday and taken to the DB offices, according to Joint Commissioner Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan of the Detective Branch.
However, the authorities did not immediately disclose the grounds for his detention or whether he will be formally charged.
Earlier in the day, a DB team conducted a raid at his residence.
On Wednesday, law enforcement at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka stopped Shamsher and his wife from traveling to Thailand.
Shamsher, a former foreign secretary, had previously served as the vice chairman of the BNP, resigning from all party positions in 2015.
In 2018, he joined the Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, led by former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
In September, ahead of the 2023 national elections, he was appointed chairman of the Trinamool BNP.
